Dubai, city of superlatives and mega constructions; a bunch of modern wonders of a world. Dubai remains one of the most desired cities for many people, investors, job seekers, and entrepreneurs. It’s a storehouse of startups and innovation. More than a lifestyle, Dubai is a sheikh’s vision; a strategist, like no other who, in two decades, transformed a dull desert into a self-sustaining business and tourist destination full of attractions.
Burj Khalifa is one of those destinations. It holds the record of being the tallest building in the world, 828 meters high, with 160 floors, and holds six other records. Under the Burj Khalifa is the Dubai shopping mall, also the largest in the world, which, among other things, houses the largest indoor marine aquarium, full of sharks and stingrays. It also has a full-size ice skating rink and a dancing fountain that reaches 150 meters in height. The lighting is so powerful that it is the brightest spot in the Middle East seen from space!
The high desert temperatures that reach 50 degrees in summer do not prevent Dubai from having a ski resort. That’s right! While the heat melts the city, the resort keeps the temperature at less than zero degrees on the indoor track of over 400 meters long.
Another building, in the shape of a palm on an artificial island, is called Jumeirah. It is full of real estate millionaire householders, offices, and upscale hotels. The most impressive building is the Atlantis, which has as its theme the legendary lost city of Atlantis and offers rooms overlooking a giant aquarium. The hotel’s water park is also the largest of three in the city and allows visitors to interact directly with dolphins. Palm Jumeirah is the midsized island ne out of an archipelago composed of three palm Islands.
Out of so many outstanding hotels Burj Al Arab, in a shape of a sail is the most original in architecture and offers the best in traditional Arabic hospitality, e.g., your limo pick up from and to the airport is a Rolls Royce. It is the only 7-star hotel in the world and its bold candle-shaped design is known in five continents of the globe.
Looking to host an even more different? Here is the Qasr Al Sarab, a luxury resort in the middle of the desert. It’s not a mirage. It’s Dubai!
A tour in the sand dunes is mandatory: In Dubai you can enjoy a proper full day in the desert with a traditional show to experience the magic of Arabia. Live wilderness and with some luck you may end up taking some photos of falcons and camels. The program ends with a show of belly dancing under the stars, and attendees are served a typical dinner. On the menu, roast lamb and Arabic sweets. PS: watch your weight
Dubai is on the shores of the Persian Gulf, famous for warm, clear waters. Its beaches are worth a daily visit, especially Jumeirah Beach and Jumeirah Beach Residence. The country has high temperatures during most of the year, with a peak from June to August, when the high humidity makes the dust and wind the worse combination ever. Winter is the most popular season, with clear skies and a pleasant temperature of 25 degrees Celsius… And so many convertible cars.
